Hug it out for “Home STREAT Home” State of Design Festival

August 1st, 2011

Lwnski Home STREAT Home

“Hug it out” was created for The State of Design Festivals’s “Home STREAT Home” exhibition. The subject of the work had to be based on… wait for it… HOME. Here’s the blurb that goes with it, be warned, I was feeling all melancholy when I did this, it may get a bit oopy doopy.

“Hug it out” is the moment when you are with that one person who’s embrace, smell, & touch gives you your sense of security. Who’s presence reminds you that you didn’t feel quite as safe or at home, when they weren’t around.”

See, told you.

Her Bones Shrink and Radiate : Illustration for Air Poetry Magazine

July 14th, 2011

Air Poetry Magazine is straight outta Kalamazoo, Michigan.. thats right Kalamazoo. I was asked to put together a illustration to accompany a poem to be published in their summer 2011 issue. Here’s the poem:

Her Bones Shrink and Radiate
My sister carries microwaves in her skullcap.
I’ve seen her chanting sonnets to the finches at her window, singing love-songs to her kitchen sink.
On Sundays, she serves bourbon to men with half-grown beards and measures the sound of lips meeting glass, folds napkins into feathered leaves.

Actually don’t know who the author is but I’ll take any chance I get to draw radioactive bar wenches forcing booze down a finches throat.

Low Poster Fails that I like anyway…

May 9th, 2011

Both these posters didn’t get a guernsey, & I like the one they chose ( see below) but I prefer both of these to the eventual winner. Who knew mormon indie rock gods could be so picky?

The Docs That Rock: Poster & Flyer art

February 15th, 2011

Some new work for Blow up Cinema‘s “The Docs That Rocked The World”: A month of the worlds best music documentaries shown at the historic Gershwin Room at The Espy in St Kilda, Melbourne. These guys are showing some ace docos all throughout the month of May, so good I’m even crossing the river to see them all on their giant inflatable movie screen, which may or may not turn into a giant jumpy castle after each show. And I’d be lying if I said it did… All you mexicans south of the river should check it out.

The Mushroom Music Song Book… finally drops

November 3rd, 2010

For those who were wondering what the hell I’ve been up to the last 5 or so months, this be the reason. The lovely peeps at Mushroom Music Publishing (one of Oz’s oldest record companies) and AMPD commissioned me to design, layout, & draw all over the entire 238 pages of this full sized, full colour, coffee table sized song book documenting the history & stories behind some of the greatest Australian songs from Mushroom’s rather extensive back catalogue. It also includes the sheet music to each song so you can smash out the chorus to “I’m Stranded” by the Saints on yer iPhone guitar app simulator while eating your weeties in the morning. JAZZ.

Artists include: You Am I, The Triffids, The Vines, Crowded House, The Loved Ones, Magic Dirt, Nick Cave, Something For Kate, Paul Kelly, Kylie Minogue, The Boys Next Door, The Panics, Split Enz, The Saints and a whole bunch more. The book is available in all places where large music themed coffee table like books near you are sold.

Cheers to everyone over at Mushroom & AMPD for giving me the reins on this project, during which babies were born, studio were moved, and much late night fun was had. Looking forward to the next volume.

Nightmaster Album art

September 30th, 2010

New artwork for local Melbourne sonic purveyors of all things instrumental “Nightmaster”. It’s always a bonus when you really dig the music for the band you are doing the artwork for. Check out their musical wares here:  www.myspace.com/thenightmasterband and prepare to have your ears be bought a drink and then made love to in a most brutal, caring, yet still brutal fashion…

Bad Dudes

September 29th, 2010

New work from the Bad Dudes Exhibition. I think the next show will be called “So what’s with all the big noses?”. This is just the base art before I cleverly framed them all up and forgot to scan them. Find the rest of the dudes in their badness here.
